Does your lifestyle suit a Cockapoo?

When looking for a dog to join your family it is easy to fall in love with the gorgeous looks of a Cockapoo and forget about the practical side of owning such a dog.
Yet, of course it is really important to take into account some other important factors. If you are thinking off adding a Cockapoo to your home then are a number of points about your lifestyle to take into account.
Will they be alone all day?
If there is one thing a Cockapoo hates, it’s being alone and bored all day long. Cockapoos are extremely sociable dogs who love nothing more than spending time at home with their families.
I know I’m lucky that I work from home and get to be with my dog, Luna most of the time. I know that she would be sad and possibly distressed if I was out at work all day long.
If you have a routine that involves being out a lot then this probably isn’t the right dog for you, unless you can arrange for someone else to come and visit them regularly. Otherwise, breeds such as Beagles, Bull Terriers and Bullmastiffs are among the breeds that are a bit more comfortable about being left alone for relatively longer periods of time.
Exercise and Fresh Air
Cockapoos aren’t the most active dogs in the world but they aren’t the laziest either. If you want a dog that is going to sit around all day long then you would be better with the likes of a Shih Tzu, Chow Chow, Pug or English Bulldog.
On the other hand, if you have an active lifestyle then a Cockapoo isn’t going to complain about getting out and about. For example, I recently walked up Mount Snowdon with Luna and she loved it.
Having said that, these are relatively small dogs that aren’t going to run and run all day long. Therefore, they are going to suit someone who likes some fresh air and exercise but who isn’t going to force their dog to work harder than a Cockapoo can handle.
Alternatively, breeds that love as much exercise as you can throw at them include Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Labrador Retrievers and Border Collies.
A great atmosphere at home
For many people, having a lovely dog at home is the final piece in the jigsaw that lets them feel as though they finally have the sort of joyful, welcoming house where they love passing time in. Cockapoos are the sorts of dog that need a nice, friendly environment like this to live in.
If you plan to treat your dog like a prince or princess (albeit an obedient one of course!) then you can welcome a Cockapoo to the family without any fears. They are loving, sociable dogs that enjoy being part of a family and learning how to behave well. They love a good comfortable bed too, of course!
Lots of company
Do you have kids or do you often invite over friends and family to your house? If so, then your Cockapoo will enjoy company.
These are highly sociable dogs that enjoy playing with kids, meeting other dogs and being introduced to new people. That doesn’t mean that you can’t get one if you live alone, but they do relish being with company and getting the chance to make new friends.
The bottom line is that Cockapoos are terrific pets for many different types of lifestyle. If you want to add a dog to your family then it is definitely a breed worth thinking about.
